Chef Biggs’ journey began humbly in one of the toughest neighborhoods of Kingston, Jamaica. Though he grew up poor, he describes himself as "poor but rich in spirit." As one of 12 siblings, he and his family lived in a one-bedroom house in Payneland, with the boys sleeping where they landed while the girls stayed with their parents in the bedroom. From a young age, Chef Biggs knew the value of hard work—at just 7 years old, he helped his mother sell goods at the market, and by 11, he and his brother had started a car washing business and had odd jobs at construction sites.
At 16, Chef Biggs left the streets and began working in a supermarket, eventually moving on to McDonald's. It was there that his love for cooking truly began to flourish, building on the foundation he had from years of helping his mother in the kitchen. After McDonald's closed it’s doors in 2005, Chef Biggs joined the Jamaican Conference Centre Catering company, where he continued to develop his culinary skills. By the time he moved to the United States, he had completed chef courses and gained extensive experience in the kitchen as well as serving.
In 2020, Chef Biggs began catering out of his home, quickly making a name for himself with weddings, family reunions and fundraisers. It was through this work that he met the Weir's, who recognized his exceptional talent. Chris, also from Jamaica, and his wife decided to partner with Chef Biggs to help him share his gift with a wider audience. Chef Biggs is excited to bring his unique culinary experience to the public, blending his flavorful heritage with a passion for serving great food.
Hard work truly pays off. Chef often says he does not have bad days—whatever challenges come his way, he simply works through them. Despite facing significant adversity, he remains resilient and rich in spirit, believing that the true value of life isn't found in money or material things, but in purpose. For Chef, that purpose is bringing people together through good food and fellowship.
"Okay guys, dinner theater at its best. I want to first say that Chef Biggs is one of the next undiscovered Jamaican chefs in VA. Everything was good and extremely reasonably priced. The fried red snapper with escovitch, peas and rice, cabbage, plantains, jerk wings and a beef patty for under $60. Keep in mind it was too much food one person so we shared. The food was outstanding. As someone who used to cook professionally, his food would put mine to shame. I got to meet him and he displayed a great deal of humility and had an award winning smile.
